New York Presbyterian Hospital of Columbia and Cornell

  • Provided clinical nutrition care for the following units: Cardiac, Adult Intensive Care, Neonatal Intensive Care, and Pediatric Intensive Care.
  • Assessed nutrition needs, recommended plans and evaluation measures, engaged in patient-centered diet education, and worked as a team member with dietitians and other health professionals.
  • Revamped lesson plan on carbohydrate counting for food service staff with positive results: a well-received in-service with high participation and enthusiastic evaluations from participants.

Columbia University Head Start

  • Created and implemented lesson plan for parents of toddlers related to increasing fruit and vegetable intake in toddlers
  • Systematically reviewed medical charts and identified nutritional risk factors for site population aged 0-5 years. Wrote summary report and recommendations on findings. Proposed process revisions.

United Way of NYC

  • Designed and carried out nutrition education for staff development at CentralHarlemAlcoholCrisis Center.
  • Studied then synthesized previous year’s New YorkState funded Eat Well, Play Hard grant reports to be distributed to advisory committee.
  • Evaluated new Eat Well, Play Hard grant applications as part of advisory committee; collaborated with nutrition community members from various organizations including New York State Department of Health, United Way of NYC, and emergency food coordinators.

Healthy Schools, Healthy Families

  • Transformed input from school faculty to design and actualize a behavior-based lesson plan for 4th grade students in East Harlem. Lesson focused on snacking and making choices at local bodegas.
  • Interactive teaching methods included: song writing/ singing, demonstrations, team building, and inquiry-based lesson.

NUTRITION EDUCATOR. New York, NY. (09/2006 – 01/2007)
Harlem-RBI After-school Program

  • Devised behavior-based nutrition education program (8 lessons), and guided 3rd and 4th grade students through lessons as part of an after-school program in East Harlem. Lessons provided twice a week in the fall. Aided in transition of new instructors in January of 2007.

WORKPLACE WELLNESS PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT CONSULTANT. San Francisco, CA. (06/2006 – 09/2006)
WellCall, Inc.

  • Completed needs assessment for on-line nutrition education program for diverse worksites.
  • Envisioned and created theory-based content for 13-module on-line program named EatWell (due out in early 2007) that will be offered to clients who are interested in improving eating habits.
  • Partnered with team of Health Coaches and Internet Technology Manager to improve final product as a team and to supervise the actual manifestation of EatWell as it appears on-line to clients.

LiFE (Linking Food and the Environment) Science Curriculum
FoodChange: Nutrition, Education, Financial Empowerment

  • Through the Food Stamp Nutrition Education Program, supervised 6 classrooms and facilitated all aspects of implementation of a nutrition-based science curriculum (LiFE) that was developed at Teachers College, ColumbiaUniversity with support from the National Institutes of Health, NationalCenter for Research Resources, and Science Education Partnership Award.
  • Provided professional development, revised lesson plans, and coordinated materials for lessons. Monitored lessons, offered technical expertise in nutrition, and taught in classrooms as requested.
  • Acted as liaison between Teachers College of Columbia University, FoodChange, and the principal and faculty of PS 211. Worked closely with curriculum authors in process evaluation, editing materials as needed.
